A REAL ID is a federal standard for state-issued driver’s licenses and ID cards, designed to enhance security. You’ll recognize a REAL ID by the star in the upper right-hand corner of your license or ID card. If your ID doesn’t have this star, it’s not REAL ID-compliant. Alternatives to REAL ID include Passports, Passport Cards, US Military ID, and Federal trusted traveler program IDs (e.g., Global Entry card). To get a REAL ID, visit your local DMV and plan for up to 3 weeks to receive it by mail. Temporary cards are not acceptable travel documents.

US travelers 18 years of age and older will be required to travel with identification that complies with federal standards. Children under 18 traveling with an adult do not need to provide this identification to get through TSA.
